Looking for something to do in Metro Vancouver? Here are three suggestions for Thursday, July 12.
Here’s one for the geeks: Quantum Inkblot is an evening of quantum physics that invites you to explore the field through the lenses of physics, psychology, dance, art, and astronomy. The evening will incorporate lectures by physicists and psychologists, feature state-of-the-art visual artwork, and original contemporary dance performances. If that appeals to you, congratulations, you have nerdy interests. But you’re probably super cool and smart, and I’ll bet everyone else at Quantum Inkblot is too. Join them and enjoy your evening of physics-inspired contemporary dance.
Where: H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, 1100 Chestnut St., Vancouver
When: 7 p.m.
I know very little about Sparta, but I know the band that gave birth to them: At the Drive-In, the prog rock group that was a staple of my college years. Sparta boasts three former members of At the Drive-In, so you know these guys know what they’re doing. Sparta will be at The Biltmore on Thursday night.
Where: Biltmore Cabaret, 2755 Prince Edward St., Vancouver
When: 9 p.m.
Cost: $19 – $24
We’re Gonna Party Like It’s Your Birthday Karaoke
It’s karaoke night at LanaLou’s Rock and Roll Eatery on Thursday, and you should absolutely carve out an evening to sing songs you only sort of know with a bar full of people you don’t know at all. This karaoke sets itself apart from the rest by promising special perks for July birthdays, and while I don’t know exactly what that means, who has ever said no to a special perk? If you know anyone with a July birthday, make them attend this event and reap the special perks by osmosis. Do: go to this. Don’t: sing Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn. You think you know it, but you don’t, and you’ll be left standing up there like an idiot during the long, instrumental bridge.
Where: Lana Lou’s, 362 Powell St., Vancouver
When: 9 p.m.
Cost: $1 – $7
