Streaming television continues to assert its position as a force to be reckoned with when it comes to quality programming — and awards season. Thursday’s Emmy nominations provided proof yet again.

A year after Hulu won the first ever best drama award for a streaming show with “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Netflix made history by garnering more nominations than any other network. The service’s 112 nominations helped it eclipse HBO’s 108. The cable network had held the nominations title for 17 straight years.

As The New York Times noted, Netflix’s growth has been “staggering.” In 2015, the service had 34 nominations and in 2016, it jumped to 54. By last year, Netflix was second only to HBO, with 91 nominations.

Netflix scored nominations for a variety of programming and roles, including “Stranger Things,” “GLOW,” “Queer Eye,” “Wild Wild Country,” “Mindhunter,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “The Crown” and more.
