HOUSTON — The NBA announced the finalists for Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday — and Draymond Green’s name was nowhere to be found.

The finalists for the award were New Orleans’ Anthony Davis, Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid and Utah’s Rudy Gobert.

Green is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and he was the runner-up for the award in 2015 and 2016. He’s been named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team three years in a row, from 2015-2017. He was named to the All-Star team in February for the third straight season.

He averaged 11 points and team-highs in rebounds (7.6) and assists (7.3) this season. He also averaged 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocked shots a game.

Green is the key defensive player for a Warriors team that’s been to The Finals three years in a row, winning championships in 2015 and 2017. The Warriors are currently in the Western Conference Finals against Houston.
